Autumn Seafood

Jeju is being surrounded by the sea, and has abundant seafood, so various seafood dishes have been developed for centuries, enriching Jeju’s dining tables. This section introduces Jeju’s autumn dishes.

Jeju-do’s Red-banded Lobster
Jeju’s red-banded lobster is called as ‘ttaksaeu’ or ‘ttakchongsaeu’ in Korean. Unlike general shrimp, it has claws. As it is caught in abundance in Jeju, it is also called ‘Jeju-do lobster.’ It is a food ingredient that is readily available in Jeju, so it is used a lot when cooking seafood stew or soup base for stews. Nowadays, it is becoming a popular food ingredient to make other dishes. When it is steamed, it tastes like lobster. Preparation is a little difficult, but after removing the shell, the meat has a similar texture as shrimp.

Raw Red-banded LobsterRed-banded lobster tastes good in any recipe, but when it is eaten raw, it provides a nutty flavor and tender texture. To eat it raw, remove the hard shell with a hammer and dip the meat in vinegary, red chili-pepper sauce to enjoy a firmer texture than other shrimps.
Red-banded Lobster BurgerWhen it comes to food in Jeju, food made only from ingredients found in Jeju Island has become popular. Red-banded Lobster Burger is a hand-made burger made of Red-banded Lobster, a representative food ingredient of Jeju. Red-banded Lobster Burger topped with tartar sauce provides an excellent meaty texture of whole shrimp. It is a good way to fully enjoy Red-banded Lobster.

Octopus, Jeju’s Iconic Seafood
Octopus is considered a nourishing form of seafood. In particular, it is an excellent nutritious food for treating a cold during the change of seasons. Unlike octopus caught from the mudflats of the southwest seashore, Jeju’s octopus is easy to clean as the sucking discs have little foreign matter and the meat feels soft and plump. The most common way of eating the octopus is when it is parboiled. Slicing according to the texture will provide a nutty flavor. It is also used as an ingredient for salad, sushi, skewered dishes, and stir-fried dishes.

Octopus RamenRamen cooked with plump meaty octopus tastes as good as gourmet dishes. In particular, the soup containing octopus juice is very refreshing.
Stir-fried OctopusStir-fried assorted vegetables are seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic and gochujang (Korean chili paste) and stir-fried with octopus again to make this dish. The dish tastes sweet and spicy and the texture of dish is incomparably superb compared to dishes made of ocellated octopus.
